Jan 5th 2007: the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in Hakone --- Kanagawa　

1. Daikokuten On the first day of 2007, we started 7:30 early morning to short trip to Hakone by bus.

1.
It took around 2 hours to get to Hakone. We started our tour along the Hatajuku old street from “Daikokuten / the god’s name “ (Shugenji-Temple).

“Daikokuten” is a god of kitchen and leads your destiny and brings you luck. Also brings rich harvest and take bad luck away.
A big dog was sitting like a stuffed toy at the place we had a tea.

2.
The second is “Ebisuten” (Hakone Shrine / Moto-Hakone)
There is a red gate beside the Lake Ashi and as we go up the steps near by, we found the place “Ebisu” was sitting. But actually we didn’t recognize it because it was closed so we visited Kuzuryu shrine.
“Ebisu” is a god of voyage and prosperity in business. His power effects in wide range, good health,be blessed with children, good business, safe transportation and so on.

3.
Now, third is “Hotei-son” (Kofukuin / Moto-Hakone)
This is also very close to Lake Ashi. We had very nice sweet sake.

“Hotei-son” is carrying a big bag with lots of luck and it is believed that he will share them with people who believe him.

4.
Forth is “Jurojin” It was a small temple located next to Hakone botanical garden.

It is said that this is a god of Chinese Taoism. His stick has a roll of saying inside which give us a long life.

5. Bishamonten 5.
5th is “Bisha-mon-ten” (Komagata Shrine / Hakone)
It had a torches and looks like brave god.

Another name “Tamon-ten”. It is a god prayed by soldiers in old days. He will give the people who believe guts and treasures.

6.
6th is “Benzai-ten” (Ajigaike / Ashino-yu)
It was very quiet place with small gate and small hut located with Japanese silver grass around. Benzai-ten is a god for entertainment.

She is goddess. She will give us love, knowledge and hospitality.

7.
Last, 7th is “Fukuro-ju” (San-nou-Shrine / Hakone Kowaki Park)
It is a shrine placed in huge park “Kowaki-en” There is a wooden statue of herself in the shrine.

“Fukuro-ju” means “Luck”, “Stable life” and “Long lasting life”

I followed “Hakone 7 gods course”.
It is a course with steep slope up and down. This is a famous course the students runs in one of the new years day. Wow, they’re amazing!!
